Legends are not particularly forgiving towards women, I've noticed. But I suppose in most cases Houyi and Chang'e lived happily despite their circumstances. And at least the mooncakes are still delicious. Just as long as you're mindful of possible secret messages.

Looking over the legend of the Qixi Festival only reminds me of the fact that humans, in all their splendor, are tragically hopeless romantics. And maybe that's a good thing.
